We have three options depending on the location of the file share(s) that should be scanned.
To scan a file share, it must be mounted on the DAMCS. If the DAMCS is delivered as a service, a VPN network must first be established.
Direct Mount (only for on-premise installations)
We recommend using OnPremisoe DMCS installations to scan on-premise data exceeding 25TB
Point To Point VPN (default)
This is the recommended setup for under 25 TB of data with fewer than three files. The VPN service is included in the default hybrid license. Please refer to the Point-to-Point VPN here:
Site 2 Site VPN
We recommend using site-to-site connections when serving more than three on-premises sources. Please be aware that site-to-site connections require a site-to-site license or a custom security framework. Currently, a 4.000 a month license.
Please refer to the Site-to-Site VPN here:
How to mount the file-share - when the connections is established
Please provide Data & More with:
- IP or domain for the fileshare
- AD user with read/write permissions
- Make sure that the file share is visible from the toolbox
In general, please do not use @. Do not use “da@ju” as a user - but rather “daju55”. Also, when providing the users, please specify any configuration they may need for access. eg.: VPN login: client_domain\daju Windows login: daju55 Exchange login: daju@client_domain.xxx For password min 8 characters and do not use #, &, / |
AD user for the Data Compliance Server to access file shares
In order to access file shares, the Data Compliance Server needs a unique AD user that has R/W permissions to all the data that the Server should analyze.
The password for the AD user should be static (not changed while we run our tool)
Notice: One of the typical client-side errors we encounter during set-up, is AD users who do not have the rights to read the data the Compliance Server should scan.
When the Data Compliance Server can access the file share, it must be mounted directly as a drive on the D&M Server using smba or other relevant protocols.
The command needed to mount the file share on the Compliance server:
- mount -t cifs -o username=username,password=password //server-name/sharename /mountpoint
The: /var directory should be min 500 GB on the Data Compliance Server according to the specs for the related set-up
Please notice that codes for mounting SAN may vary. Also, make sure that the toolbox has the rights to mount the relevant files-share
